Discovering Your Full Potential Early by kat - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Art is the world to me. I guess I have always been an artist but I just only recently found out in my high school years that I had an amazing talent to draw. Because i just happened to have the most awesome art teacher. Mr. Winterbottom, who brought out the best in me. So I would have to say, that if roles were reversed , I would want to teach art in grade school. Teaching art in the younger grades would allow me to notice the students who have a talent for art and to bring it out. They would not have to wait until high school to realize their potential. The most important thing a teacher can teach you is that you have potential. As a child, you don't yet know your abilities. You need an adult to tell you truthfully how you are in certain aspects of learning and what you should be concentrating on. Although in grade school, I had a wonderful art teacher, she did not make me aware that I was clearly better then my peers and that I should think about art as a career.

So, If I had to choose to switch places with someone, it would be my grade school art teacher. I would be able to help a student who has talent discover that talent and perfect it.
