In 10 Years by Karrington - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now, I see myself as a successful entrepreneur in the real estate industry, owning and operating my own brokerage while making a meaningful impact on housing accessibility. My goal is not only to help clients buy and sell homes but to build a company that prioritizes ethical real estate practices, community development, and opportunities for low-income families to live in safe, high-quality housing in areas that offer economic and educational opportunities.
My education will play a crucial role in helping me achieve these aspirations. At Howard University, I will study management with a concentration in entrepreneurship, which will equip me with the business acumen, leadership skills, and financial literacy necessary to run a brokerage. Through coursework in real estate principles, marketing, negotiation, and investment strategies, I will gain the technical knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of the real estate market. Additionally, networking with professors, mentors, and peers will allow me to build relationships with industry professionals who can provide guidance and opportunities.
Beyond the classroom, my extracurricular involvement and leadership experiences will further prepare me for the challenges of business ownership. As a student-athlete, SGA president, and an active member of organizations like FBLA and NHS, I have learned the importance of discipline, resilience, and teamwork. These qualities will be essential in managing a brokerage, working with clients, and leading a team of real estate professionals.
My long-term vision extends beyond brokerage ownership, I plan to develop affordable housing projects that provide low-income families with a chance to live in thriving communities. I want to ensure that families are not limited by their financial situations but have access to quality homes, good schools, and job opportunities. My education will give me the tools to understand real estate development, financing, and community planning, enabling me to bring this vision to life.
In ten years, I see myself as a business owner who not only achieves personal success but uplifts others along the way. My education will serve as the foundation for my journey, giving me the knowledge, skills, and connections to make a lasting impact on the real estate industry and the communities I serve.
