The Road Less Traveled by Karl - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

My greatest University accomplishment was sticking with it for the last three and a half years. I served my country when I got out of high school and all my friends went off to college. I got out, went into the work force, and quickly realized that I was lacking a major bullet point on my resume, College Education. So, I made the decision to go to University here in Wichita where I lived. I was married, twenty seven years old, had a new born baby girl, and was working full time. I had no idea what I was in for but charged ahead anyways.

My friends and family were skeptical and did not think I would last long in this new endeavor and quickly stopped asking about my progress. I continued on, nose to the grindstone for three and a half years until right now one week before graduation. Not only am I graduating but I am graduating with honors. My wife, both of my daughters (we had another one along the way), and my family will get to see me walk the stage and get my diploma after years of hard work and sacrifice at the age of thirty.

I never thought I would ever go to University but life has an amazing way of teaching you lessons that you never intended to learn. I have learned much from my time in University and am ready to press on with my Graduate studies in an attempt to stay ahead of the cruel lessons life has in store for me.
