Great Learning Comes from a Dream Classroom by Karina - July 2020 Scholarship Essay
My dream classroom would have all the essentials for me to thrive both in learning and study time. I would name it the Four Corners and the color scheme for the walls and furniture would be full of color. The colors would be an emotional expression of the different avenues of life. Each corner or wall would be named and pertain to different parts of the kinesthetic learning style.
One corner would be named Tech It Out, where technology meets an office. There would be all manner of paper products, stamps and envelopes to allow for business and fun. Pens, markers and glitter would be there too! Also, computers and Ipads would be available to give access for research papers or play an interactive online game. Perhaps, a visual video on YouTube as well. Writing papers just got fun!
The second corner, the Cozy Corner is a place to read books or listen to them. There would be some headsets with a CD player, real books on a bookshelf and Kindles. That way, each person could listen or read a book to their own personal content. I know I like to switch things up and use all three depending on where I am or what else I am doing.
The third wall is Sensory Motivation. This is where science projects happen or dance parties! I call it sensory motivation because it entertains all of the five senses. I love to do hands-on things as that is how I personally learn. Having a place to do real life science would allow the creative juices to flow and my understanding and retention to increase.
The last corner is Snack 'n' Relax time. Cozy couches and bean bags exist here. I know that I need a break every hour or so from my schoolwork. Having a center place to get away and lounge is important for me to truly relax. Plus baking and cooking is a stress reliever for me! All in all, a fun and colorful classroom is my idea of a personal functioning work room.
