What does attending college mean for you? by karen - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

For me, going to college meant being broke. Even though I attend a community college, I still spend $300-500 per class, and around $100 for each book. It starts to add up! Working a lot harder than I did in high school you can't really slack off and skip class when you have to pay for it Being more self-sufficient. The professors in college give you a lot more freedom than the teachers back in high school. That also means you have to keep up with your agenda and assignments better. They're treating you like an adult now, instead of a child. That means they don't stick their necks out making sure you turn things in on time. Meeting new people of all ages it’s really interesting attending classes with people twice my age. It's so great to go to a new place, with all new people. After all, I'd been going to school with the same people for twelve years! Before coming to College I really didn’t know too much of anything about it. I only knew that it was a small college for away from home I had never even seen the campus before coming to early registration. I was so worried about getting away from home that I didn’t really think twice about where it was. I also didn’t know that this school didn’t have any sports. When I moved in my dorm room, there were a lot of things that I was not accustoming to. When I started class I got a rude awakening in my English class. Things were nothing like home and I felt out of place.
