Less Procrastination this year for Sure by Kara - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New Year’s resolution are a good idea if you are able to stick with what you said you would. This year my New Year’s resolution was to make myself a better student by procrastinating less to ease the level of stress that come with the AP classes I take. By procrastinating less, I will have my work done earlier and more time for relaxation.
There are a few pluses that go along with getting your work done earlier. One plus is that if I have a question on the project or homework I know that I can ask the teacher about it the next day. Another plus is that it allows some room for error like if I have a printer malfunction I can print it at school the next day. Also, if I get it done early I have more time to check that the assignment was completed correctly making sure that nothing important was left out. Furthermore, it allows me to compare my data or answers with a fellow peer that has the same class. Finally, it allows me to put more effort into it because I will have more time to go through the details allowing me to get a better grade on the project.
Less procrastination not only means better work produced, it also means a lowered stress level and more time for relaxation. With the work done early, I do not have to scramble at the last second to get it done causing me to lose for sloppy, poorly completed work. This will result in me getting a good grade on the project. With lower stress levels and less homework, I will also have the adequate amount of time to get a proper night’s sleep that will help me be better focused in class. With less homework I will have more time to do leisurely activities like exercising or watching a movie. This will also free up time that I can use in my social life like seeing a movie or having dinner with my friends. De-stressing will allow me extra time to prepare for college, the SAT, and the ACT which will greatly help me when the admission time comes for college. Less procrastination will greatly help me relax and allow me to do more fun things instead of work.
My New Year’s resolution of less procrastination will help me get better grades, improve my work ethic, and allow me to relax and do leisure activities. With this extra time, I will be able to slow down my fast-paced life and appreciate the simple pleasures in life. In other words, I will be able to “stop and smell the roses.”
