Road to The Future of Education by Kalynn - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
My dream job is simple really. I want to help kids become the best that they can be, and to live up to their full potential. I want to be a teacher that motivates, listens, and is open to all my students. I want to help kids through some of the darkest years of their lives. It is simple really. The job I have always dreamed of is to work with kids. I am currently part of a great Education program that prioritizes helping students. We learn about all the best ways to put our students first. The importance of empathy and compassion is greatly emphasized. I also am majoring in Psychology. It is such a great major to pair with my Elementary Education major for multiple reasons. A big part of what teachers do is psychological so being able to understand my student’s psychology is very important. I believe it will make me a more effective teacher. Most importantly I believe my double major will help me to make the impact I have always dreamed of. As the years go on, I may change my approach to helping children. That is where the Psychology degree comes into play. My second dream if teaching does not work out is to be a child psychologist.
Helping kids is such a big part of my dream that I do not care how I do it in the end. It is something that I know I will find a way to accomplish one way or another. Throughout my college experience I will be exposed to new situations with different children. I will see different backgrounds and different personalities. Each child is so unique that it is impossible to cater to everyone's needs. My hope is to at least try to cater to each child I know. I understand already that sometimes making the effort is all you can do, but it can make a difference. This is something that just the short time I have been in college has taught me. I firmly believe that it is not the last thing I will learn in my college years. If the rest of my college plans workout like I hope, then I will soon be on the path to my dream job. The road to the future of education will be open for me to travel.
