I think the greatest benefits of a college degree are the doors it will open, the experience you will gain, and the interpersonal connections you will make. When you go to college to obtain your degree you will not only learn information that will assist you in your future career, but you will also gain experience that pertains to said career and will meet industry professionals that can assist you not only in college but in the processes of obtaining a job or admission to a graduate school as well.

A college degree provides many opportunities and opens doors to more career options. According to Northeastern University, “college graduates see 57 percent more job opportunities than non-graduates.” Many jobs require an individual to have some form of a college degree, especially higher-paying specialized jobs. Several career fields such as medicine, engineering, and law are almost impossible to get into without first obtaining a college degree. Having a degree opens the door to these opportunities and increases an individual's likelihood of finding a job.

Another thing that helps individuals obtain jobs is experience. Many colleges now encourage students to seek out experience in their intended career field through things such as internships. Also, while attending college you will gain different experiences and skills in class that will be needed for your future career. Throughout a student’s college education, they will be able to complete different labs and projects that will teach them the necessary skills for their intended career.

While working to obtain a degree students meet many professionals who know about or are a part of their intended career field. As they work with these people they will be able to learn from them and improve their skillsets. Also, making these connections will help students when they go to enter the workforce or graduate school, as they may need recommendations from different professionals.

A college degree can be incredibly useful and has great benefits. It can provide you with more options and opportunities as you look for a career. Obtaining a degree will not only provide you with education, but it will provide you with experience and professional connections as well.
