ATTENTION: Life Skills Needed by Kaitlyn - August 2015 Scholarship Essay
The American high school curriculum includes many classes needed to further your education, become employed, or to serve our country. However, it does not provide something that is essential to every person: Life Skills. Any average person is expected to know how to communicate, think, have social skills, and study habits. However, how can anyone be expected to do something if they haven’t been taught how to do it? If I could add a subject to the American high school curriculum, it would be dedicated to life skills.
An ideal life skills class would have several subjects. There would be topics such as communication, social skills, study habits, and deep thinking. Communication is an extremely important skill to have for everyone. It is needed to be able to work well with others and understand one another. Practicing communicating would be beneficial to our society. Also, social skills are needed to be friendly with other people, and to get the job done. Deep thinking and study habits are crucial to any student who is planning on furthering their education. Learning how to study and think the correct way will only help you in the long run. These, what may seem basic skills, are not easy for every person. There should be a class to help you be a better well rounded individual who has all of these skills.
If this class was provided, we would have a better workforce, more students willing to learn, and people knowing how to act properly around others. This would create a better, more efficient society. If everyone were to learn these necessary skills in high school, think of the amazing things they could accomplish in college, military, work force, and other careers. Life skills should be added to every high school curriculum across the country.
