The Deep Passions of My Life by Kaitlyn - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

The concept of mathematics has always captivated my thirst for knowledge. As a critical thinker, mathematics enhances my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, two of my most formidable strengths. Comprehending mathematical concepts extends beyond numbers involving visual and analytical reasoning. These skills are invaluable when making crucial life decisions. As I solve a complex problem, each step demands strenuous concentration. Perfection is an essential component of these elements as a single error can lead to turmoil. Solving the problem creates an unparalleled sense of achievement and a desire to accomplish more. The aspiration to analyze numbers, the elegance of proofs, and the applications across various disciplines are revitalizing concepts. While pure mathematics creates abstract and theoretical rooted proofs, I believe applied mathematics is equally intriguing. Applying mathematical concepts to financial situations can help individuals achieve their financial goals. My primary life goal is to create a positive influence on individuals by utilizing the principles of mathematics and finance to empower them in managing their finances.
As a math instructor for three years, I have had numerous students with occupied parents, engrossed in their profession seeking help once their child’s test grade dropped below their prestigious academic standards. However, the reality is most of these children are proficient in their mathematical abilities but face learning disabilities or conflicts at home. With the intellect to acknowledge this disparity, I am committed to making the most of the opportunity to impact these children’s lives. Instead of avoiding these hidden problems, I foster individualized connections with each student, recognizing and catering to their unique personalities and needs. I adapt my lesson plans to work through each problem in a way that clicks. One of the most remarkable feelings I have experienced is observing one of my struggling students overcome these difficulties knowing that I helped aid this process. These personal experiences have enabled me to want to pursue a career in finance and help all people alike achieve financial success and for everyone to be valued for their differences.
