Who is one person that has had a positive impact on your education and how did they impact you? by kaitlyn - March 2023 Scholarship Essay
One person that has had a positive impact on my education is my math teacher and former high school softball coach, Ms. O’Brien.
I have known OB since my freshman year. At first, we were not that close because I had made JV my freshman year. And, I don’t think either of us really cared for each other in the beginning. But as I matured, I realized what a phenomenal person she is. Luckily, we started to get closer during the COVID-19 Pandemic my sophomore year.
Ms. O’Brien is always willing to help me out when I am confused in class, and she offers 1 on 1 time outside of class (during my off periods) as well as helps me come up with a plan on how to improve my grades in other classes if I ask her for help. Also, her willingness to help me with understanding both my assignments and tests, and allowing retakes of tests, has led to me getting an “A” in her class over the years.
In addition, she was my high school softball coach for my freshman through junior years. Unfortunately, she resigned as coach after my junior year, but she is still my math teacher. OB has helped me so much these past 4 years physically and mentally. OB had also helped me with my travel softball situation last season. I was absolutely fed up with my travel softball coach last season, but she helped me work through it and is one of the main reasons that I did not quit softball altogether.
To conclude, Ms. O’Brien is one of the most important people to me and has helped me and had a positive impact on my education and softball.
