The Imperative Leadership of a College Student by Kaitlin - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Leadership skills are almost imperative for a prosperous college career. The ability to lead a discussion requires these skills. No one appreciates awkward silence. If a student does not pick up the discussion and answer a question posed by the teacher, they may feel as though his or her students are not following. Studying is not the only way to participate in college and many skills such as honesty, trustworthiness, commitment, communication, positivity, and creativity cooperate with leadership and prove different levels of the college experience.
College success can be awarded in many different ways, but it is about taking the initiative and putting forth effort to create that success. Leadership is shown through that effort. To sit around and study and do your assignments is to be merely a shadow of the other students. The other students are the ones standing up, fearlessly, attempting to be leaders. They do this while completing assignments and studying feverishly.
Being able to guide yourself and others is a valued skill. Many skills make up this slightly broad title of leadership skills. Honesty and trustworthiness fit together very well. When you lead others they are voluntarily trusting you to lead them accurately and to provide them with the correct information. You suddenly become responsible for others’ actions in this certain area of leadership. Responsibility is mandatory in the real world and it is essential to understand it in college.
Committing to your word and your information is prudent. One should always be confident that they are educated and understand completely what he or she is communicating. Confusion will erupt if one does not understand their boundaries. It is not an equal student’s responsibility to change another’s opinion based on what they believe to be factual. This is something everyone must carefully work around when it comes to leadership roles.
It may all depend on personality, but leadership skills are necessary for college success. Although, these skills are expedient for life as a whole. Positivity is a must in life, because one needs a content outlook on life in times of struggle and stress. Also, life is all about ideas and inventions, and this requires creativity. Some may believe that creativity is only in certain people, but it doubtlessly exists in all of us. These skills and many others are necessary and not too ambitious to develop. One must simply believe in himself and do their best to be a leader in mundane situations.
