Outside the Box by kailey - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

When thinking outside the box is brought up most people think or your typical "inside the box" answer. Many people respond with being different than the rest. However when people ask me, my definition of thinking outside the box is coming up with ideas that are so different and wacky that they just might work. Thinking outside the box allows me to push myself to do what my heart desires.
To get the opportunity to come up with my own ideas allows me to think outside the mainstream train of thought. In the sense that i can come up with my own thoughts, to me being able to think outside the box allows me to be true to myself and follow my heart. Ever since I was young, my Paw-Paw always told me to follow my heart and do what feels right. The concept of thinking outside the box allows me to do just that.
A time I considered myself to be thinking for myself is back when I was a freshman in high school and my geometry class had to come up with a game we can play based upon the people in my group. My group contained the type of people who do not typically care about grades or participating. Therefore I took it upon myself to come up with a new and fresh idea. Mini Golf! I took my groups interests of going to places like Austin’s Park and Pizza, plus being able to incorporate math and thus came the haunted hole of put-put. While all the other groups in my class were coming up with your typical matching cards game I was able to think differently and make a project into something I enjoy.
To think outside of the box thats been created by todays society means the ability to have fun and do the impossibles. You never know what life is going to throw at you and as a person you will eventually run into a situation that doesn't have a simple solutions. Therefore you should think outside the box and really make something matter to you. I continue to think differently to become successful and to teach myself I am not dependent on other peoples ideas and views.
