The Magic of Reading by kahner - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” ― George R.R. Martin. If we did not have reading where would we be? Reading is in every aspect a part of our daily lives.
Reading is quintessential for everything we do; We use it for directions, buying food, even online shopping. Just think, where would we be without online shopping? Reading is the most important part of education. It is much easier to live without a good knowledge of mathematics, but reading? No way.
Science has never taken me on a journey, but reading has. Sitting down and reading a book is the most relaxing way to end my day. I am transported to the Hunger Games battle ground with Katniss and Peeta, or the ranch with Lennie and George in John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.” I get lost in a book and cannot focus on anything else until I finish it. Reading books are honestly magical; You connect with the characters and always learn a valuable lesson.
Reading has always been a passion of mine, even as a young child I would rather read than watch television or play a game. People all crave the adventure, heartbreak, victory that comes in every book.
