Spreading Inner Shine by Kahealani - December 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I was on the committee that awards the Nobel Prize, the two most significant qualities in which my recipient would need to possess would be self motivation and the desire to make a positive impact on others. I value these two qualities because they represent someone who gives remarkable effort towards being the best person they can be, and someone who uses this internal goodness to imbue positivity on the world around them.

Self motivation is essential in order to flourish in any aspect of life. From doing something as complex as promoting peace in a community to doing something as simple as completing a 3-task to-do list, self motivation is what drives us towards achieving our goals. In my eyes, a noble who is worthy of their prize is someone who pushes past their limits and strives towards being better then they were the day before. It is someone who challenges themselves to grow from mistakes, experiences, and even accomplishments. Someone who is worthy of such an honorable prize values growth mindset, and won’t interpret this award as the ultimate success, but a stepping stone towards being the best version of themselves. Whether this person has made an outstanding impact in literature, medicine, or economics, what matters most is how committed they were to giving their best efforts possible towards their passion. It is not how motivated this person is to be the best, but how motivated they have been to be their best. If I was on the committee that awards the Nobel Prize, I would award someone who has motivated themselves to be all they can be, and someone who will not stop here.

Nevertheless, self motivation is only half of what it takes to truly be worthy of such a praiseworthy prize. As admirable as being a good person is, who strives to do the best they can in life, it is equally if not even more important to spread this goodness to others. The winner of a Nobel Prize should be asking themselves two questions every day… “Am I doing my best?” and “How can I use my inner spark to shine light on others?”. To me, it’s about doing and being good, and than using this power to build others up. Someone who deserves to be awarded at this level of greatness must look within themselves for strength, and then look outside themselves to make others strong. It’s about making sure positivity reaches every speck of one’s community, no matter if individuals desire to be reached out to or not. It’s about aspiring to use one’s knowledge and skills to shed light and love on the people of our world. One who deserves to hold one of the highest awards known to mankind in their hands is someone who believes in uplifting others, and worships the idea of spreading as much positivity to the world as possible.

No matter what subject this person has made an impact in, they must push towards being the best version of who they are, and use their good to bring something positive to others. I value someone who has a great amount of work ethic and challenges themselves to go above and beyond their limits. I value someone who knows the value of community, and aspires to use their self motivation for the good of others. The winner of the Nobel prize should hold the qualities that not only make them a beautiful soul, but make the world a place full of beautiful souls too.
