Dream Classroom by Kaelee - July 2020 Scholarship Essay
A dream classroom is a classroom that allows for optimum learning and a comfortable setting where students can flourish. High school classrooms are usually not the most vibrant and mostly barren except for the rows of desks and chairs. The most encouraging thing in the room is often one or two motivational math posters. I feel like this setting contributes to students’ dull mood as it did mine.
What my, and many others, dream classroom would look like is a very vibrant room, not a dull one. I’d love to see the walls painted a color other than white and decorated with posters and other items. A personal favorite of mine is to see the ceiling tiles decorated by students. This adds to a feeling of coziness and lightens the setting along with the mood of the students.
A dream classroom would also have an area for sofas and couches when it came to reading, homework, or even study time. It would resemble a living room and allows the students to feel more comfortable and more willing to complete the work. Windows are an absolute must as the lighting of a room, especially natural lighting, changes the mood as well.
With this being my idea of a dream classroom and very similar to others’ ideas, I do believe this is a classroom teachers should strive for when it comes to the perfect learning environment.
