Dining with the King by Junko - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

Dining —the action where you can stuff yourself yet talk about whatever is on your mind. ‘Chat and bant’ —as I would like to call it—are times that I joy creating jokes and entertaining my company: with some questions or what-not. Finding company that can stomach my whimsical mind, however, is the tricky part, most of the times. I fear that, although I may helplessly leak why we pronounce things in a certain way, I have a terrible habit of seeping into sensitive or controversial topics, in the present day. My ‘black and white’ mindset, religious outlook, and stark patriotic beliefs give little leeway in the grey world. I respect their beliefs, but I tend not to share my opinion in return, to avoid troubling them. In addition, more offend then not: I enjoy talking with adults more than children my age.
Therefore, what better way to suffice both needs by chatting with the one and only George Washington? The idea of chatting about more simplistic, patriotic times, and gaining answers about the questions that buzz my mind, instantly, would be my dream.
George Washington, himself, was a religious man that knew what the nation needed the most. President Washington was not just a leader but a humble man. He was able to claim his responsibilities, step down from power, and put aside his beliefs for the betterment of the nation.
I would hope to ask the questions that nobody thought to ask, pry into his personally beliefs, and hopefully, I would learn to become better from his words of wisdom. Although we would most likely be dining on pork loin and mash potatoes, if I were the host. Regardless, it would still be my parallel to ‘dining with the king."
