The Long Run by Julissa - October 2015 Scholarship Essay

Extracurricular activities may be a pain sometimes and really hard to keep yourself sane after all the time put into those activities. In high school extracurricular activities are essential for so many things which is why they should be required for high school graduation.
No one wants to waste time in a club that you get no benefit out of. Well, at least that is what people think. It does not matter how much time and effort you do or don’t put into it because the students will always get something great out of it such as the experience. Getting whatever experience out of it means it will help out in college. Even if it is just with small things such as trying something new it will be better for the student later on in life.
Extracurricular activities really help with social skills. Along those lines they push people out of their comfort zone which leads to great social skills. Being able to learn how to socialize is very important in life because it opens doors that shy and quiet people may not be able to open on their own. Extracurricular activities really help with the process as no matter which one a student participates in they often interact with the community.
Frequently, the extracurricular activities also teach another important skill which is team work. Why lie, many people don’t like to interact with people and these activities really help with the issue. It is as if they teach them to deal with the people they are assisting or interacting with because in life there will always be those rude people which a person does not want to deal with. Being able to deal with those people and being places when you don’t want to makes a person vulnerable to succeeding.
Overall, extracurricular activities really should be required for high school graduation because they teach students things that sitting in an ordinary classroom will not. The things they learn will actually stick with them unlike learning a formula for a math equation that they will only use in that class. The skills they learn will take them to greater and better things.
