Don't be in a Rush by Julie - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

Yes, yes, I understand that you have to present so much information to us before the end of the six weeks, or semester, or the end of the year, but if you didn’t take the time to make sure we all understand, you’re not really doing your job correct. You should consider telling the information more than one way, every time you have to mention that piece of information, take the time to say it in a slightly different manner. Doing so will not only help us remember what was talked about even more, but those students that couldn’t understand the idea the first time, will now not miss the crucial information that they needed to be successful in your class and in their life.

I know, from lots of experience having to come to tutorials because I couldn’t really comprehend the way that a teacher explained a problem or idea, that after that teacher takes the time to think of the material in a different light and then explain again, I am much more able to get the jest of what they talking about. Over and over again, I have had that “ohhhhhh” moment after someone else explains it, it may even just be one of my friends who better knows the way I understand the world and school subjects.
So, for all the teachers out there, those that I have had and even those in other countries, I want to stretch the importance of taking your time when teaching a room full of thirty kids and not just explain something one way, one time, because not everyone that your teaching will think in the way that you explain.
