Studying Abroad Opportunities by Julie - March 2016 Scholarship Essay
Coming straight out of high school and being thrown into the real world, most young adults cringe at the thought of being too far away from home. Don't get me wrong, most have been looking forward to getting away from their parents but not too far, a comforting distance at least.
When it comes to studying abroad and leaving the country, the thought of being thousands of miles away from everything you've ever known gives most people an intimidating and uneasy feeling. What most people don't take into account are the numerous amounts of benefits this opportunity can bring.
Studying abroad not only gives one a chance to see the world but it also gives a person a chance to learn new cultures and languages. This is important in that it gives an individual distinct cultural perspectives and bigger opportunities in finding a career knowing more than one language.
To future employers, study abroad experiences are incredibly important. Studying abroad shows that an individual is willing to step into the unknown and take on new challenges, be open minded to different perspectives of culture, and dig deeper into their education. To employers, this opportunity portrays a willingness to bring out an independent nature and commitment to one’s education.
Studying abroad delivers so many enduring and life-changing academic, personal growth, language skills, career, and social benefits that this opportunity should be considered by every young adult graduating high school as a new stepping stone in their life.
