The Disgraceful Nature of Current Education Systems by Julianna - September 2025 Scholarship Essay
Getting a higher education is a privilege; it is something many people do not get to experience. For as long as I can remember, I have desired to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse. As a high school senior, I have been determined to be a strong, resilient student. For the past four years, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA, while also taking college level courses. However, this has not been easy. Throughout my academic career, there have always been some unfair, mean teachers. That is just life, though; you cannot escape it.
Despite these challenges, I always pushed through and earned an A. Unfortunately, that all changed my junior year of high school. Along with the workload and stress that is associated with junior year, the majority of my teachers did not care about their students' success. I found myself being forced to teach myself the concepts with no help or resources from my teachers. I began to hate learning and despised going to school. However, I pulled through and got straight A’s, proving my teachers wrong. It was not because of them that I was successful; it was because of all my hard work and dedication.
Now, as a senior in high school, nothing has changed. Unfortunately it has become the new normal, not just for me, but for my classmates as well. Although this might be the new standard, it is simply unacceptable. It is the teachers job to make learning engaging, not exhausting. In the next 10 years, I expect education to be better than it is now. The best way to make change is to bring awareness to issues. Administrators need to make students feel comfortable to come to them with their concerns, not fearing being prosecuted. People should become educators because they want to better future generations, not force them to figure everything out on their own. The current education system is disgraceful, and I hope that my future children will not have to go through the hardships I have to simply get a proper education.
