The major that I am going to pursue in college is journalism. In today’s world, there is a lot of good and there is a lot of bad. These things need to be talked about and shared with the general public from the voices of the uncorrupt. One thing that shook the world most recently was Covid-19. Every piece of news and media was talking about the pandemic nonstop and it was unavoidable. Writing is what gets these people’s voices to be heard even in the wave of chaos that is a worldwide pandemic.
Learning how to speak, and how to read, and then sharing those skills with those who come after you are based on the sole fact that writing courses through everything around us. Children’s books teach kids their first rights and wrongs. Do’s and don’ts. And mold them into the people that they are today. Writing is one the most crucial forms of communication that we as humans have in today’s societies and it has only gotten easier and more accessible as the decades go by.
That is why I want to be a journalism major. As the head Op-Ed Editor for my school’s newspaper, I have been able to get my opinions out into the world with the support of the club behind me. In the beginning, it was nerve-wracking, but now I am ready to use everything I’ve learned to speak up for those that don’t have the means to do it themselves. I want to dedicate my career path to getting the unheard voices heard.
