Is it worth it? by Juliana - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
One piece of advice I would share with younger students now that I’m graduating and will be going to college is simply stay focus. Focus on school. The whole relationship situation is nothing to sweat over. You might feel pressured to get into a relationship because everyone around you has a boyfriend or girlfriend, but the most important thing for you to succeed is focusing on yourself. With doing so you allow yourself to be free, be wise, and be able to be better. By being focused chances are that without distractions you will get better grades. This will enable you to get into good colleges and be qualified for more scholarships.
Although, maybe relationships won’t affect you as much as it does to many people, all I’m saying is regardless of any distraction you have, put them aside and focus on school. Staying focus enables one to better themselves along with their grades. Being a high school student, I understand how difficult it is. Your best friend wants to hang out this day, then you just want to go out another day, and then by the time you get home you really don’t want to do any homework. Both a combination of laziness and procrastination, something that I have done in high school many times which impacted me greatly as I started to see requirements for colleges and scholarships. If I were to stay focus on school instead of some boy or going out, I would be able to apply to more high standard colleges without worrying so much of what the odds of getting in are.
Consequently, the main advice I would give younger students is stay focus. Do not procrastinate. Do not get lazy. Do not worry about girls or boys. Once you’re accepted to a great university because of your great grades and get a career that will pay off, then you can find someone who is truly worth it. If you don’t find someone you will still be content with yourself and your accomplishments that you have made.
