A note to a young child by Juliana - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
One of my deepest regrets is not overcoming my shyness earlier. I realized how important it is for children to experience as much as they possibly can before becoming an adult. Participating in different clubs, playing sports, enrolling in development programs, ect can expose young people to many different topics and people. They can discover their likes and interests, as well as skills that they excel in. By the time they emerge as college ready adults, they already have a pretty deep understanding of themselves. They can make informed choices about their college majors and hopefully be on the right track towards a fulfilling job and social life.
As a child, I was always very shy. I never participated in any type of organization unless I had a friend join with me. I feel like my childhood was very limited because of this. I never branched out or attempted to discover my interests. I simply followed whatever paths my friends and family chose. Now that I am 23 years old, I feel lost. I am just starting to explore my interests now. Although it is never too late to learn about ourselves, I know I would have been happier at this point in my life if I had tried to experience more when I was younger.
