Opportunity of a Lifetime by Julia - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
During the fall of 2013, my school was invited to the PLTW State Convention in Missouri to display its Biomedical Sciences program. My teachers then selected me and three other students to go to the convention to present and talk about the program, as well as positively represent our school. Being chosen for this and going on the trip to the convention was a tremendous honor, and it truly opened my eyes to the great achievements I have made in my own education because of the biomed program at my school.
At the convention, the inspiring speeches filled the opening ceremony and stunning creations from various colleges and companies filled the halls. The moving words showed me exactly how an opportunity to excel in education can change lives, then the advanced technology on display revealed how those lives that are changed can create the things that make the world a better place for everyone. Those great inventions showed me not only what others are capable of doing, but what I can also be capable of as I continue in the pathway of education.
Along with being inspired, many promising colleges and companies attended the convention. While I was there, I was able to walk around and explore not only my options for college, but even my options for future careers. The convention offered a great way to expose myself to possibilities for my own future. I made connections that can give me a competitive edge against the countless other I am up against for acceptance into college and scholarships. Even being a student exhibitor at the convention helps me stay a step ahead of everyone else.
Attending the PLTW State Convention is one of my greatest academic achievements. It left many astounding impacts on my life. Not only did it offer a glimpse at what I can accomplish in the future because of my academic success, but it gave me an advantage in this competitive world. Every day, now more than ever, I make it my priority to further my education so I can be successful in the medical field.
