If roles were reversed I would teach Computer applications. I have a passion for office applications such as Microsoft Office. Being able to have a passion for a subject and convey that passion to students would get them more interested in learning. Students use computers everyday and most do not realize the tips, tricks or shortcuts.
Students today believe they know everything about computers and when you show them something they didn’t know before; you become more interesting and knowledgeable in their eyes. I have worked various jobs that have different uses for computer applications and they can make your job so much easier. I had to once create a spreadsheet with formulas to calculate my projected percentages for the end of the week (how many accounts/loans would be current on Friday).
As well as, teaching students how to create a more attractive resume in Microsoft Word. Most students can create a basic resume but making it attractive to potential employers is key. Using banners, color blocks, line separations, bolding certain words, attention grabbing words, etc.
These are useful items to learn as they can be applied to daily living. Information that actually has a purpose in students lives are more likely to be retained. This is why if roles were reversed I would teach Computer Applications.
