Discovering my True Passion by Josselyne - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
Six-year-old Josselyne had always dreamt of being a teacher. Sixteen-year-old Josselyne still plans on being a teacher. Ever since I was little I had the dream of becoming a teacher. Through the years of my education and observing my teachers I became more passionate about being a teacher and knew that is exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Throughout the course of my education, I had some doubts if being a teacher is what I really wanted. I could be a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse but something always drew me back to being a teacher. I always thought being a teacher does not pay well, and I have a lot of potentials to be anything I want to be. It was not till I starting aiding for a fourth-grade class that I realized I was passionate about it and I loved teaching. The first weeks were a bit rough and the kids did not know me and did not talk to me. After a few weeks, they started to open up to me and talk to me and I became more comfortable around them. By the end of the year, I had made friends with all of them. They would write me letters and draw me pictures, which are still hanging in my room. Not only did I teach those kids something but also they thought me that my true passion is teaching.
I am now on track to graduation high school and going to college to major in child education. I could not achieve this goal if it were not for my parents who believe in my dream and are behind me every step of the way. Also, I want to thank my teachers for inspiring me and being a role model and showing me their passion for teaching every day, and being so supportive and helping me achieve my dream. Lastly, I would love to thank my fourth-grade class that I aided in for pushing me to be the best I can be and realizing what I truly want to be.
