The Crux of the Nobel Prize Nomination by Joshua - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
As a member of the committee for the Nobel Prize, the two qualities that I am looking for in a recipient are exceptionality and respectability. The Nobel Prize is given in many different areas; however, each area seeks to award those who impact an area in an exceptional way. Therefore, I believe the committee I am on would ensure not only the importance of the contribution but also the respectability of the nominees’ process and motive.
The exceptional candidate would have offered his respected field dedication, revelation, and impact. Exceptional does not have to be popular, famous or course-altering. Exceptional is the candidate who has closed the gap, found the missing piece, or made his respective area better in a way no one has, hence exceptional.
The next quality that the recipient must have is that they and their work must be well-respected. If someone is a Nobel Prize nominee, they should not only be respected where they work but where they live, and how they live as well. Respect does not mean they have to be liked by everyone in their field because that is unrealistic; however, they should be trusted and admired by their field. Impact can be motivated by greed, frame, etc. The committee needs to ensure nominees live well-respected lives because that helps safeguard the integrity of the work. If the nominee is not respected by those he lives with or his friends, he is not worthy of the Nobel Prize.
The Nobel Prize is a prestigious award; therefore, the recipient needs to meet and live up to the prestigious expectation that goes along with being nominated and receiving this award. This award has been given to Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, and Albert Einstein; although the recipient does not need to meet the same standard of fame as these past winners, they should embody the same characteristics that made these past winners live on in history.
