One of our most Essential Tools. by Joshua - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

To think “outside the box” is a trait that is attainable with practice of thinking on a unconscious level of real world issues. It is the catalyst for what has led us to a technologically advanced society that we are today. The innovators that had developed new ideas translated into the automobiles that transport fellow citizens of the free world in the streets, the smartphones that allow us to connect with people worldwide with face time, or even ideas by innovative thinkers that we still use to this day like Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, and Galileo Galilei who exceeded beyond the limits of knowledge that was at a point somewhat “unattainable” to many. Society was scared of the burden that will have to be taken to achieve beyond what many have never attempted to step their foot into, it is the metaphorical “box” that contains not just the individual, but the potential is that is stagnant within them. To go “outside” in a box so deceptive in it’s uttermost attempt to eliminate the passion in every individual that one possess to give in upon thoughts of failure consuming them, and fear is right there to lead them back inside the box. In everyday life, people tend to go outside their comfort zone to fulfill a purpose that may be perceived as “impossible” at first, but in many ways is attainable. It first starts with an idea so extreme and so unbelievable, that goes far from the box than anyone could ever imagine. For me, I think of the idea of to think outside the box as an essential tool to adapt and survive as a species overtime. The fact of the matter is that without the mentality of to seek out to the open, we wouldn’t be where we are today, without travelers like Ponce de Leon who discovered part of of the Gulf of Mexico and Hernando de Soto who discovered part of the world that we know and live on today. Without people like these we wouldn’t have advanced anywhere as a species, stuck in fear of discoveries. It is necessary to think outside the box to survive as a species.
