Doors Opened By Mr.Education by Joshua - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

As a young child, I never understood the importance of education. However as I grew older I watched my older brother leave for college, after his first semester he came home and told me of his experiences. He told me how college was this amazing place to meet new people from different places and learn all these incredible new things. My brother made College sound so incredible I knew that I had to go one day, as time went by I realized college wasn't just some magical place to meet new friends but a necessity in life. The importance of a college education is stressed in today's society and for good reason. Many jobs today require at least a Bachelor's degree and college graduates on average earn a million dollars more than non-college graduates. Besides the professional opportunities college also offers many opportunities to network and meet people. During my freshman year of college, I have met some of the most amazing people that will be my friends until the day I die. College provides so many positive influences that no one can afford not to go to college. Despite the soaring cost of education, we cannot afford to go uneducated. My older brother always told me "if you think education is expensive you should see the price of ignorance." And this is what College means to me.
