Having leadership skills will definitely help to make your college career better, but having the right leadership skills will make it a great success. I feel that there are some leadership skills that can make your years at college successful; being a team player, having integrity, visioning goals, and being able to relate to others from different backgrounds. College is a stepping stone to our careers in which we will be in leadership or supervisory roles working with many diverse people.

Leadership can promote many positive changes in our lives as well as others. Being a leader gives others the drive to make these changes and execute the “let’s do it” attitude. In order to induce this kind of attitude leaders need to be a team player and promote team building. A good leader can see what their strengths are and then build a team of many talents and strength to accomplish goals. I feel these types of skills will be important for me during my college years while playing team sports. Building a team and working together to reach a common goal is what sports are all about. Every team needs a leader or a captain for the others to look toward for that positive attitude and every leader needs a great team to be successful.

Having the ability to relate to others is a leadership quality that will make college successful. Working with other students on projects and student organizations can only be successful if you have the ability to relate to others. This can impact those around you to be more enthusiastic about reaching the goals or completing projects. When you are able to relate to others then they will want to follow you and work with you towards these goals but only if you also have integrity. Integrity brings trust and confidence from others. When working as a team in an organization or with fellow students on campus trust and confidence are important. If you do not have these qualities as a leader you will not be successful in college or in life. Integrity is truly one of the most important leadership skills for college for this is where you begin to develop those relationships and skills for the future.

The future is what all college students are working towards. Visioning goals for you and your fellow students is key to making changes in the future. Every career choice of college students will have the need for setting goals in order to have a successful business or career in corporate America. Setting these goals early in college will give you something to work towards and achieve. Goals will give you the opportunity to stretch your thinking and think about what you can and will become, a great leader with integrity, team building skills, good relationships, and a goal oriented attitude.
