Home Owner initiative class by Joseph - February 2022 Scholarship Essay

My father has done a wonderful job trying to help me and my brothers in learning how to work on our home. I've learned how to wire a house, install plumbing, dry walling, and much more. I constantly see folks on Facebook literately begging for help. My brothers and I have went to multiple folks homes and helped when we could, if it gets to big of course I holler for my father.

This leads me to wonder with families both in the workforce, how many kids do not have this privilege. We make jokes about folks not knowing simple things like how to reset a breaker, but it's really a shame. Our schools are so focused on education that we may or may not use but don't teach the finer things that they will need everyday.

My father and Mother learned the hard way by trial and error. My dad ran into folks in the workplace who would help him out and who taught him as they went. He's currently a Maintenance supervisor for Heiners Bakery Plant. They decided to try and flip a house. Because of this, it really set me up for success since there was several home improvements needing completed. I'm thankful everyday for my parents.
