Accomplished Through Helping Others by Joseph - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
The word accomplishment by dictionary is said to be ‘any acquired ability or knowledge.’(via Dictionary.com) Accomplishment to me is knowing I've made a positive impact, whether it's assisting and helping others or just for my personal gain.
An example of this is during middle school, mainly eighth grade, I would tutor students. I took pre-algebra during that time, and I would finish my work early, giving me extra time for the teacher to offer me the opportunity to help students. No award was given to me nor did I expect one, but what I did gain through helping students to better understand math was the feeling of accomplishment.
Tutoring didn't stop there, either. During pre-calculus, which I currently am taking during my junior year of highschool, I still find the thrill of making sure my classmates can better understand the material, by getting to school early and seeing who’s there, so I can help my teacher, coming to class during lunch and doing the same, or even staying during after hours and doing what I can to help. There is no excuse to not have the feeling of accomplishment in you, opportunities to better the people around you are just waiting.
