My Most Effective Study Method by Joseph - January 2014 Scholarship Essay
The most effective study method I have used is to frequently review my material. I think that if the materials aren’t reviewed often, then many times I will forget much of what has been learned. I always make it a habit to review my materials on several occasions after I receive it.
I review my material shortly after its as been presented. Reviewing early helps me not to forget and helps me remember far longer. After the first early review, I also go over my materials each day at least once until test time. I spend at least thirty minutes a day to keep my memory fresh. As it gets close to test time I get a parent, student, or a friend to help me with the review. I will have them ask me questions about my studies, and I will give the answers. If possible, I use different people because each person will ask different questions. This way I can never just memorize my materials, but instead I actually learn them. I repeat this until I get all of the questions right. I start this part of the process around two days from test day.
This method is very good for my studies and helps the materials to melt into my brain. I learn everything I need to know by test day by doing this method. I find that frequent reviews and having other people to help me in my review really helps me at test time. This study method has really helped me be successful in my high school career.
