Einstein's Bagels by Joseph - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I could choose to have dinner with any historical figure, the only person I could think about that actually would be worth while would be the man Albert Einstein. I’ve read a book about his life story. In it it described where he came from, how he grew up, how he interacted with people while in school, and how it all culminated down to the person we all know today. It was a book my girlfriend gave to me as a gift for Christmas. She knows I am fascinated with science and coming up with my own theory as to why things are the way they are. In his book, it was said that Albert Einstein had the ability to image himself traveling through space and time and that this allowed him to come up with his theories about how gravity and the universe works.
I imagine the only thing notable about Albert Einstein to an average adult would be his involvement with the nuclear bomb, that E=MC^2, and that he wasn’t good at English during school. The last part isn’t true at all, he was rather well versed and passed his English classes just fine. To me however, having dinner with him would give me the opportunity to allow him to do what he did best, which would be to question everything. At first I would take time to try and catch him up to speed with how the world is doing and allow him to dwell on it for a while. I would tell him in my best ability about our current space endeavors, communication, computer science, medicine, education and art. I would like to see the look on his face after just showing him my phone and tell him that in my hand I have the power to instantly obtain any amount of information on those subjects possible and that I can communicate with almost anyone I want.
It wouldn’t tell him these things to impress him, I would just want to know what he thinks about our current situation as a world. Hopefully he would be able to generate questions from the extremely limited summary I provided of the 21st century. I believe so many people would be appalled at what I have to say about how things are going, but it would be from the perspective of an average Joe. I think I would actually take notes on what he has to say and because of his past influence, our world would take his thoughts into deep consideration. Relatively speaking, in the time of one dinner, it would change the course of the world. I just hope he can put my phone down.
