The power of motivation by Jose - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
One of the things that I am most thankful for is the motivation I have received from everyone during this transition from a high school degree into pursuing a college degree. This is how I know that I am not alone in this journey. Everyone such as my parents, my friends, and any staff members of Phoenix College have been encouraging me to begin college as soon as possible. They have given me explanations on why school is important and why to not let an opportunity like this pass bye. All this motivation has set out new dreams for me in the future and have now made it my goal to successfully accomplish them.
The only reason I didn't start College right after high school is because I didn't have the right mindset of how important a college education really was. My parents have always been there for me and have always motivated me to do my best to try to get as far as possible in my education. I know that they want to see me succeed and I have also promised them that I will. My problem is that I do not qualify for financial aid because I am not a natural born citizen of the United States so my idea was to wait about a year, save up, and then start school. My parents were unsure of this idea but I promised them that I was going to go to school no matter what, so all they could do is just keep on supporting me no matter what and they said they wouldn't give up on me. They knew that if I promised them that I would go to school that they would put all their faith in me.
The first semester of college was coming to an end and most of my friends had told me many great stories of their experience in college. This caused a drastic change in my personal ideas that I had for the future. They explained to me that even if I didn't qualify for financial aid I could always work of scholarships. They told me that there are many great people out there and many great programs that could help me out. They motivated me to start college as soon as possible and this made me realize how much they really cared about me, because they told me they would like to see me in one of their classes in the next semester. It made me feel so happy when they told me that I wasn't in this alone and that they would help me find the resources needed to begin on the right path.
Most of my friends are attending Phoenix College, and they told me that the staff members in the campus make it so easy for me to understand how college works and how I can be helped out financially. When I went to Phoenix College for the first time they made it so easy for me to officially get enrolled. That same week I attended orientation, took my placement test, and got my school schedule all worked out for the next semester starting in January. The best part was that they provided me with reliable resources that would help me score high on the placement test so that I could get all 101 classes and above. Every staff member on that campus that helped me out and made it so easy for me to understand and comprehend why school is very important. Not only did they give me that extra push of motivation that I needed but they also answered many questions and concerns that I had. They were there with me through every step and presented me with many ideas of how to make college easy for me .
I am very thankful of the way things turned out. I had never expected to get this much support from the people around me. At first I was puzzled on how colleged worked and how to get started but my parents, my friends, and the Phoenix College staff members help me put the pieces together. This is something I will always be grateful for because now I have bigger opportunities ahead of me and I am going to do my best to make them worth it. I will always be thankful to the people that have motivated me and now it all depends on how bad I want to succeed. Now I have to believe in myself just as much as they all believed in me.
