Dwight Eisenhower by Jose - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
Having dinner with Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower would be amazing. I would want to dine with this particular President because he had such an incredible life, full of fantastic and sometimes terrifying experiences. His beginning was so humble and yet he rose to the absolute height of power through hard work and perseverance mixed with a little luck.
Dwight experienced extreme poverty in his youth and his family relocated several times. He didn't let this keep him down and ended up finding a college with no tuition required, West Point. He played linebacker and running back on the Football team and also was involved in other sports. His academic career at West Point put him on the road to what would become an incredible life.
I feel that Dwight and I have many things about our early lives in common. I would like to be able to sit down with him and simply ask for his advice on how I could do as well as he did. To be able to pick the mind of the man who was President of the United States, NATO Supreme Commander, Supreme Allied Commander, and a five star general would be fascinating.
I would ask him about his youth and early college days. We would talk about being a five star general in World War II. Hopefully he could tell me what it was like trying to run the country at the height of the Cold War, and how it felt to be the person who helped link the country together through the interstate system. Simply put, I would like to learn from the man himself what it was like to be a shooting star.
