College leads to success by Jorell - October 2024 Scholarship Essay
After giving it ample consideration; I'm interested in the pre-college program because it's something new, it will offer me college credit and it will help introduce me to college life. I’m curious about what I'm going to do what are they going to have me do and who will I meet and who I will see and perhaps I will make lifelong friendships when I'm there. I will be closer to becoming this new person as this student. I find myself considering what it's like to be a college student waking up to go to a different class at different times of the day and living in a dorm room what who will I stay with and how will I get to the class? What will I be learning while I’m there to see new unexpected things? The idea of meeting with the sports program's leadership thrills me because baseball is my passion. I want to meet the head coach of the program they have in order to learn what I would need to get an offer from the coach. It would put my mind at eases to know what I need to do to get a scholarship and maybe train with the team. The early insight into seeing what it's like to train as a college athlete would help set expectations for my student-athlete life. I am setting the routine of what they do on a day-to-day basis, and seeing how they manage class/sports expectations at the same time. I am hopeful I can join the long line of scholars who have thrived with your assistance.
I think of education as necessary for my future success. I have plans to major in maniacal engineering alongside my baseball extracurriculars, because I wish to design medical appliances to assist athletes in preventing and recovering from injuries. I have seen how people in my sporting and personal life have suffered from improperly healed injuries that plague them their entire lives. These injuries have in a few situations ended their hope of professional careers. I would never want to suffer such a devastating fate. I dream of a long, storied career in the Majors. Once I hang up my cleats I hope to offer my knowledge skills and wisdom to the American pastime in a new way.
The dream of founding a company to manufacture and distribute my products around the world is not quite fully formed, but it is aspirational. I want to be that man that makes this dream a reality. I will with my sweat on the field and commitment to my classes build myself into the innovator-athlete I envision. My parents have shown me unwavering support. It is for them as much as for myself that I put in years of training and months of study.
I want to meet the adult version of myself. In order to become the best version of myself I know I need to stand on my own two feet. This chance to earn college credit while being trusted to be responsible for me is the first real step in the process of maturing. I see myself as an adult going to college for baseball then getting drafted and playing in the minors for a couple of years to better myself to get called up and play for a major league team having good seasons and singing for a lot of money after being in the MLB for having good seasons. And registering and becoming a coach for a major league team or for a minor league team or college and high school. I want to embrace the opportunity offered by the summer program to learn more about myself. College is a once in a lifetime experience and even more meaningful to attend tuition-free. I come from a low-income single-parent household, so I don't take this opportunity lightly. I’m curious about what I'm going to do, what they are going to have me do and who I will meet and who I will see, and perhaps I will make lifelong friendships when I'm there. I will be closer to becoming this new person as this student. I find myself considering what it's like to be a college student waking up to go to a different class at different times of the day and living in a dorm room. After thorough research, I discovered a renowned organization. Your legacy of excellence aligns perfectly with my aspirations, and I am impressed by the high standards and values your scholarship represents.
Throughout my life, I have endeavored to achieve a personal balance of academic and athletic excellence. My studies have always been a priority, sharpening my mind, while athletics have honed my physical abilities. This discipline, instilled in me by my mother, has guided me towards being my best self.
Education is the cornerstone of future success. My ambition is to major in Mechanical Engineering or sports medicine paralleled by my dedication to baseball. I am driven by a vision to design innovative medical appliances that aid athletes in both preventing and recovering from injuries. Witnessing peers and loved ones struggle with the lasting effects of sports injuries, some even having their professional aspirations cut short, has deeply impacted me. I aspire not only to a successful career in Major League Baseball but also to contribute my knowledge, skills, and wisdom to the sport in a transformative way once my playing days are over. A college education will help me make a positive impact by developing innovative techniques that will allow athletes to progress and understand mobility of the body more through muscles, bones, joints, and the nervous system.
The dream of founding a company to develop and distribute these medical appliances globally is still taking shape, but it is a goal I am passionately committed to. I am determined to become the innovator-athlete I envision, propelled by my dedication to the field and the classroom. My mother’s unwavering support has been a bedrock for my ambition, and I strive to honor their belief in me through my relentless pursuit of these goals.
In addition, I would like to open a training facility for baseball training and academics. Although the facility will be open to all walks of life, I would like to focus primarily on African American youth because they are underrepresented in the baseball world. My college education is essential in creating this opportunity for youth to be able to thrive and excel. This will also lead to them staying productive and less prone to engage in negative activity and lead to a positive impact on the community. Furthermore, a college education will broaden my perspective on life and core values and will expand my intellect which will allow me to give back and educate my community in a positive way for those that don’t have the opportunity to further their education. Being able to earn more income after obtaining my degree will allow me to also pour into the community and organizations financially. Overall, a sound college education is a key factor in creating change in the community.
