When I close my eyes and imagine life 25 years from now... by Jordon - September 2018 Scholarship Essay
When I close my eyes and imagine life 25 years from now...
I can picture my students zooming through gym class on self propelled shoes. Their personal computer devices are equipped and they are communicating strategies amongst each other as they compete. New Apps are downloaded, and they are viewing an arena through their high tech glasses as they interact in class.
Working as a gym teacher, I know I will never stop learning. My students teach me every day. I am constantly researching and reviewing students responses to exercise and health studies. The wealth of information available on the world wide web is overwhelming, but incredible!
As technology grows and changes, there will constantly be new ways of learning. We have gained access already to electronic libraries at the touch of our fingers! Students now have individual tablets that display real time experiences right before their eyes. The differences now compared to my formal education in the public school districts is outstanding.
I learn best in a mixed environment of online and in person classes. I have found, as I return to school for my Master's degree, that I have a new use of phone applications and video webinars. In 25 years, I am sure that we will be able to participate in lectures from our living areas across the world. I am picturing the lecturer as a 3D projection able to "write" on my walls as a blackboard. I can imagine interactive computerized systems that can intellectually answer questions and process information. Automatic feedback and assistance with questions would be the norm.
I can picture scanners that can test my student's hormone and lab levels at the drop of a dime. We could find out a multitude of health concerns that I can assess and help to determine the best approach to rehabilitating an athlete. As I coach my track students, I can immediately record new records and test speeds and distances.
The future looks bright!
