Using Education to Achieve Dreams by Jordan - June 2023 Scholarship Essay

It only took me a minute to know exactly how I would honestly answer the question which is the basis for this essay. Where do I see myself in ten years? I have but only a general idea. I know that I want the simple things in life. I want to be happy, enjoying a career that I love, coming home to a supportive family, living on a small farm. However, the future is hard to see beyond that. I am in my twenties now and if I were to think back to where I thought I would be when I was 10 years old I am not even close. I would have been married by now, raising five children and starring in my own reality TV show. Those things are polar opposite of where I am now in life, where I want to be at this moment. All that time has taught me is always work towards a goal but stay open for growth and learning.

Along with the goals I look forward to working towards in the next 10 years, my education is at the top of my list. Whether its the knowledge I gain or the experiences I encounter during my time in college, I do know that my education will help me by giving me a successful career in Pediatric Psychology. Being an independent wife and mother and helping to provide for my family, having the capability to give my future children opportunities that they will be able to carry with them for the rest of their lives, those are things I strive for. Having a successful career will drive those dreams and make them a reality. Although I do not have a clear picture of where I will be 10 years from now, I am excited to see where my degree will take me.
