"The Guardian Angel Fund" by Jordan - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

For the past 4 years I have dedicated my life to helping animals. I worked in a large veterinary hospital with 10+ doctors in the upscale Buckhead, Atlanta area, an emergency animal hospital located in rural Deland, FL and now I am currently working in a small veterinary hospital with an "affordable" business model.
In all of these hospitals, I have experienced the same gut wretching scenario where either a horrific emergency occurred or a pet has been diagnosed with a chronic life long disease. As a veterinary technician, the attending veterinarian gives us the plan consisting of blood work, radiographs, medications, etc. I walk into the room with the estimate and I can just see the look of fear in the owner's eye as I read off the long list of things that must be done to save their pet. They call family members, credit card companies, friends, anyone who will help them pay the bill to save their pet. We the employees of the veterinary hospital feel the pain of the owners and try to come up with creative ways to help their pet. "Can we try over the counter medication?" "Can we just take one radiograph?" "Can we do a smaller bloodwork panel?" even to go as far as "Can we adopt the pet?". These owners love their pets so much and we can see it written all over their face, they just don't have the monetary funds to save their pet. It breaks our hearts just as much as the owner to not be able to do absolutely everything for that pet.
So, If I had a non-profit organization I would start an organization that was able to give funds to these owners to help pets and their owners in need to save their pets' life. Whether it be the entire amount or just a little bit which can go a long way. We would be their guardian angel, giving them what they need to save their family member.
