Super Intentions Make a Superintendent by Jordan - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
My goals are something that took me a long time to develop, and are still tweaked every now and then. I began with aspirations to become a history teacher, and then moved on to early childhood education. I recently began to discover my strengths in organization and applying myself in a useful way to a not so ideal situation, which has led me to desire continuing into the masters and doctorate realm of education. My educational goal is to just take everything I can in, good or bad experiences, and rework them into lessons I can use to take with me into my community and professional field. My dream job is to become a superintendent of a school district, so I can continue to listen to teachers and students and do my best to be in touch with education and make it as enjoyable for all of my staff and students as I can.
College is allowing me to continue my education every day by providing me with leadership opportunities in education. I am a student hire teacher at the on campus preschool, and I am helping found an early childhood education club at our University. Superintendents make a lot of tough educational decisions, and I feel now is the best to to begin my teaching and decision making experiences with leadership. I plan to graduate with a bachelor in early childhood education, obtain my third grade reading guarantee, fourth and fifth grade endorsement, then move on to my masters in education and finally get a doctorate in education/administration so I can become a principal or superintendent of a school. I see what a love of reading and early involvement with it can look like with my siblings. My whole family has always been supportive of the advancement and love of learning for my siblings and I. I love working with students, but I also want to be able to provide the best that I can for as many young learners as possible. I find that I have communication skills that allow productive and kind conversations, which I feel will be an asset to use to advocate on behalf of myself and future students and fellow teachers.
