Conscientious by Jordan - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
"See for yourself and listen for yourself and think for yourself. Then you can come to an intelligent decision for yourself." --- Malcolm X
There are so many ways I can describe myself. Yet, there are so many stories that do not truly define who I am, or at least that’s what I believe. In every predicament, trial and tribulation that I have experience, I always learn that the best way to live through it is to understand for myself what needs to be done in order of obtaining peace with what has taken place. I am one that never desires help from others, because we are all different. Every individual in this world has a unique personality that only pertains to them. With this personality comes one’s soul, their learning styles and abilities, emotions, mannerisms, habits, and the most important one: their thoughts. A person’s conscious and cognition is something that cannot be duplicated. However, we tend to ask others for help, without really trying ourselves. For me, I’ve became a very critical analyzer over anything in my life. I always want to be able to make the best decision for myself based on my own perception of what could likely result out of it, and what’s truly reasonable under the circumstances. This is why I like to think for myself, listen for myself, and see for myself, so that if I make a rational or wrong decision, then I have to hold myself accountable. Even more so, as I get older I tend to recognize I better myself off of trial and error, basically learning from my mistakes. No one can truly help me become the better me except for myself, and I am the only person that can Hinder that process. The question is, why would I ?
