President of Unity by Jordan - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could choose any one president to have dinner with, living or dead, I would choose Abraham Lincoln. Abe Lincoln is obviously one of the most famous presidents in our country, and I greatly admire him for his great leadership during a traumatic time in our great country’s history. The political climate in our country has grown more tense over the last 10-20 years. I believe the man that is most familiar with that kind of tension is Abraham Lincoln as he navigated the political waters during and after the Civil War.

My hope and prayer for our country is that we can soon put aside our differences, for as important or petty as they are, and realize that we are all Americans and want the best for our country. At the core, we all have this in common, and Abraham Lincoln had a unique way of expressing and living that during his presidency so long ago. To avoid this path of rupture, we need someone who can help us become a country united again. Our country would not be where we are now without Abraham Lincoln, and we may not be able to return to a truly united country without his great wisdom and leadership.
