Missouri by Jordan - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

My favorite quote is “I don’t suffer’ from a learning disability, I live with it and work with it. I suffer from the ignorance of people who think they know what I can do and cannot do.” Most people don’t understand that I have a learning disability, non-hyper ADHD; and a processing disorder. But, I will not let that stop me, I continually working hard, at anything I want to accomplish. God leads us all on a path, and I know God leads me to become Civil Structure engineer. It was confirmed when I was building bridges in contests at University of Missouri and Notre Dame. Also, I to beat the record for building bridges Mr. Jose’s class and I set the bar high. One of my goals was to get into College of the Ozark and with God’s guidance I did. I want to be the first one in my families to go to college and graduate debt free. My goal in the next five years is attend College of the Ozarks will allow me a General Engineering degree and I will finish at Missouri S&T for one year as a Civil Structure engineer.
My future goal is to be the first one in all of families to go to college and graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering and cross degree with teaching. Mathematics is a passion that I have always excelled. Academic awards are something I have achieved since fifth grade and been placed in advance classes. My joy would continue into teaching mathematics. My future plan is to graduate debt free and have across with a teaching degree, so that I can do both engineering and mathematics. I strive to set an example for my younger sister, and show her that a person can make their path with God’s guidance and make a difference in this world. My goal is to graduate college debt free. I do not want to be the first one to go to college in my family and it cost them everything.
Engineering and teaching mathematics really made me open my mind, that everyone has a different process to learning and our ideas. My hope is to someday help a student learning to do the same. Personally, I know that not everything has to be planned out but that missing a step is a part of learning and helps build us as a person. God leads us all on a path.
