Why English? by Jordan - April 2013 Scholarship Essay

I love to express myself and tell my opinion on different things in the world. The subject that lets me do this is English. Not only do I get to write about various topics but I get to learn how to write them better. I learn new words and more creative ways of writing. I think that the way you write can show a lot of who a person is. If someone can’t think of something to write then how are they going to handle a sudden situation thrown at them? Will they not know now to react? English teaches me freedom of expression. I learn how to cope with things I don’t fully understand when I get topics that I have to research. This will help me in the real world and in my career. It will help me learn my co-workers and deal with the different types of people. I also learn a lot about other people in my class by what they write. It interests me to learn how they feel about different topics. English also teaches me an organized way to sort through my feelings on things. It’s like the pre-write to one of my essays. Sort through the information I have before just writing down a bunch of random things. This is why English is my favorite topic.
