Trusting in Him by Jonathan - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." This verse is a favorite of mine and can be found in the King James Bible, Proverbs 3: 5-6. It is my desire to be where God would have me in ten years from now. But, in order to reach His goal and my goal, I must submit myself to getting the best education possible. Finishing high school is the first short term goal of mine. Doing my best in my studies now will further my path toward the goal of seeking God's perfect will for my life. I have been accepted to the University of Kentucky Chemical Engineering program, where I will start in the fall of 2016.
My father is American and my mother is Japanese. My grandparents have raised me for the last two years. I chose to live with them when my mother moved out of state. It hasn't been easy at my schools here in Laurel County at times, because I look different than those around me. But, I've learned to do my best in whatever is placed before me whether it be in academics, music, church or community programs and not allow other's prejudices effect me. It's my hope that wherever God leads me, I will be accepting of those of different skin color, ethnicity and gender. Many of those who show a prejudice attitude lack tolerance and education. Through my education, I will rise above and be an example to my peers and colleagues.
Nothing happens by accident. I am who I am because God designed me. He has a perfect plan for my life. It says in His Word, "For I know the plans I have for you, saith the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11 To summarize, in ten years, I will be just where God wants me to be, doing just what He wants me to do and learning and growing as each door or window of opportunity is opened for me.
Thank you very much.
