Is the use of virtual reality virtually priceless? by Jonathan - February 2018 Scholarship Essay
As recently being the must-have Christmas gift, virtual reality has taken the world by storm. It seems like today that almost every major technology company, such as Samsung and Facebook, have been trying to jump in on the new trends and release a new item that contains this new piece of engineering. Its uses are endless as virtual reality is a computer-generated simulation that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way. But, are there potential benefits in the classroom?
By 2038, I can picture every classroom in America having a set of virtual reality headsets to their disposal. Imagine learning about the greatness of our solar system, and then actually having the ability to step into the Milky Way galaxy and see the magnitude of the planet’s first-hand. I would have been blown away! Not only would this give the students a better visual understanding (as a great percentage of students benefit by learning visually) but it would also inspire and motivate the children as they will be more engaged in the lesson. The use of virtual reality in the classroom does not end there, it could help children travel to foreign destinations, explore the grand trenches of the Atlantic Ocean, or even depict the way the human body works. The use of virtual reality in schools will make our future bright.
