Confident by John - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

A confident young man enters the room full of eager students, their instruments held at the ready. The man raises the thin white dowel and the musicians wait breathlessly. Then, in one sweeping movement the experienced teacher lowers the baton and the music begins. That confident young man is me, after much study and learning in college to become a music teacher. Currently there is no confidence or experience but with the proper guidance and education this dream may, one day, be fulfilled.
The education I hope to receive, in college, will teach me to become self reliant and head of the class room as I efficiently guide my pupils into the realm of music. The knowledge I need to achieve this goal can only be gained by persistent tutelage in a college education. Only by learning myself and careful practice can I begin on this journey. University learning will teach me to face the challenges that are laying ahead and how I may overcome them. That is why I must apply myself now so that this future can become possible. With the teaching I will receive in the classroom I can give the gift of music to those younger than myself, teaching them to appreciate a true art and, perhaps on day, to become great musicians themselves.
