The Essence of Education: Communication by John - February 2023 Scholarship Essay
Humans have stated the importance of communication for their time here. It was what differentiated them from Neanderthals. English as a Lingua Franca cleared the way of language differences. Humans pondered the ways to communicate with the uncommunicative, such as extra-terrestrial creatures or simply the surrounding animals. Communication is no different for education. Subjects within education; Mathematics, English, science, physical education, and every other include the use of language. Math is the language of the universe. Science is the application of it. English is the study of the use of the English language. Physical Education is the language between the mind and the body. The importance of communications as a soft skill in education cannot be understated, given its role and its essential nature in what students learn. Communication is the most important soft skill for students within education institutions, as one cannot thrive without it and formulates one's identity.
Teachers always say, "There are no such things as dumb questions." Students cannot thrive if they cannot communicate their problems and obstacles to their instructors. By having little communication with them, they are doomed to fail without guidance if their questions linger unanswered. At the same rate, teachers must know how to interact with students and receive feedback to make their lessons and lectures all the more impressive. Communication is the link between the two, and setting a voice for oneself sets them to prosper in the classroom.
One's character cannot solely be determined by their appearance. It is through their words and actions which, in the grand scheme, it is how they communicate. Communication builds and establishes a students' identity around them. By communicating with their teachers, the teachers may see them as a hard-working and attentive, whereas a lack of communication may not let students stand out. As communication formulates identity, it involuntarily creates the students’ niche in the school and lets their personality shine in whichever way it is; A stubborn and argumentative student might be interested in debate; And a curious and interested student might go into research. Communication portrays one’s identity and ultimately determines how others perceive them in any academic institution.
Communication is without a doubt an important skill to have to in education in order to succeed. It helps one thrive academically, but also develops their character in the end. In education, to communicate effectively is to learn effectively as it with science, mathematics, English, and all things human.
